Edo Kites

George Webster lent me an ancient photocopy of an anonymous article entitled “A Workingman’s Guide to the Edo”. It is signed “cw” and dated “jan93”. Neither he nor I were able to identify the author, but the content was, we thought, worth putting on the internet. (It was not already there, I tried looking for it.) Dave Shakespeare has told me that the article was originally written by Chris Wainwright of the Northern Kite Group and was published in 'Kite' of February 1993.

The article is not concerned with the rich artistic heritage of Edo kite painting, about which indeed a book could be written, but with the Edo form and the basic principles of how to make an Edo.
